Ocoee residents can fill up 10 sandbags at the city's Public Works Department with an ID or utility bill to prove residency while any Orange County resident can fill up 10 sandbags at the West Orange Recreation Center in Winter Garden, no ID required.

It's best to bring your own shovel. But there is plenty of sand for filling up sandbags in advance of Tropical Storm Idalia at the West Orange Recreation Center in Winter Garden (309 SW Crown Point Road). Once it hits the Gulf of Mexico, Idalia is expected to become a major, possibly category 4, hurricane.

Ten empty sandbags will be provided to any resident of Orange County — no ID required.

West Orange Recreation Center will be open until 7 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The center may have Wednesday hours but that is still to be determined. "Try to do it today," said a staffer who did not want to be identified because they were not authorized to speak to media.

For more information, call 407-254-9245.

In Ocoee, the city has opened a self-serve sandbag distribution and fill site at the Public Works Department (301 Maguire Road). The site is open Monday until 7 p.m.  and Tuesday, Aug. 29, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Each Ocoee household can fill 10 sandbags. Residents must bring a valid ID or city utility bill for proof of residency. Tools will be available to fill sandbags, but residents are encouraged to bring their own shovel or trowel.

At this time, trash pickup is anticipated to continue as scheduled.

For more information, visit ocoee.org or call 407-905-3100.

The City of Winter Garden has pre-filled sandbags ready for pickup for Winter Garden residents with ID at its Public Works Complex, (880 W. Bay Street). The hours here have been extended to 7 p.m. The site will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Residents will receive 10 pre-filled sandbags. For more information, call 407-656-2256.

Oakland residents, with ID, can pick up 10 empty sandbags at Town Hall (230 N. Tubb Street) through 5 p.m. Monday and on Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until supplies last. Bags can be filled with sand at the corner of S. Walker Street and W. Hull Avenue. For more information, call 407-656-1117.
